The Center for Community Literacy Staff Bios

CLC Intern Mandy Billings finds it strange to speak about herself in the third person, but she sees that everyone else has written their bios in this manner and she's certainly not a person to shake things up. Oh no.

Mandy is a first year MFA fiction student at Colorado State University. She received her BA in English from CSU in 2006 and is excited to be interning with the CLC this year. In addition to working for the CLC, Mandy is also a consultant at the CSU Writing Center and a TA. She is very interested in learning about the writing process both in and out of academic settings, and is thrilled to be a facilitator for the SpeakOut! Creative Writing Workshop at the Larimer County Detention Center. Her other areas of academic interest include gender and language, women's literature, and feminist/gender theory. After graduating, Mandy hopes to teach English and creative writing at the university level while continuing to write fiction.

When she's not agonizing over the balance between clever and cliché in her bio's introduction, Mandy enjoys reading everything she can, writing (but never as much as she'd like), theater, film, art, and the joys of vegan baking. She is looking forward to working with writers outside of academia and making literacy accessible (and fun!) for members of the community.
