Community Literacy & Writing Projects

The CSU Book Club Project is designed to link CSU students with readers in Poudre School District (PSD) through small-group discussion of high-interest, quality literature. With input from students and cooperating teachers at school sights, CSU mentors select appropriate texts and plan instructional activities based on their ongoing assessment of student needs. In addition to providing support through the courses in which this project is offered, Cindy O’Donnell-Allen also meets periodically with CSU students and cooperating teachers in Book Club Forums to share questions and challenges related to Book Clubs and broader literacy concerns.

CSU students in the English and English Education programs are currently working with the Fort Collins High School Mind Center, a resource for at-risk sophomores, juniors, and seniors. CSU students meet with a group of three to six Mind Center students weekly to read and discuss books, which have included novels like The Dark Knight Returns and Speak.

Contact Dr. Cindy O’Donnell-Allen for more information.
