The Center for Community Literacy Former Intern Bios

CLC Intern Elizabeth Kin-Davey graduated with a master's of TESOL (i.e., Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in the Spring of 2006. Elizabeth worked on the Intergenerational Book Club and Writing Project sponsored by the Center for Community Literacy. Since graduating, Elizabeth gained employment as the ESL Program Specialist for the Adult and Family Education Center in School District 11. She is also an active member in the Pikes Peak Immigrant and Refugee Collaborative.

Through the diversity of Elizabeth's work and teaching experiences, she continues to be motivated by the need to promote literacy in all facets of life. While at the CLC, Elizabeth learned valuable lessons about the importance of people sharing their experiences through writing and various forms of self expression. "Literacy is more than just the ability to read and write. Through programs, such as the Intergenerational Book Club and Writing Project, people are able to have a dialog about their experiences and expand their understanding of the world around them." More than ever she sees the need for non-native English speakers to join in this discourse. She hopes to continue promoting community literacy in her new community of Colorado Springs.
