Community Literacy & Writing Projects

Colorado Poet Laureate Mary Crow's Poetry in Motion was inspired by a 1992 New York City project by the Poetry Society of America and the New York City Mass Transit Authority. In conjunction with the Poetry Society of America, it seeks to celebrate poetic and visual art by placing it in Transfort buses on each Fort Collins bus route. Selected artists create work to be paired with specific poetry pieces and mounted on placards inside Transfort buses to make riding more pleasurable for passengers. Every six months, six new poems and visual art pieces will appear in the buses. A committee chooses poems from Colorado State University faculty and students, public school students, community members and nationally-known poets. Thus, a diverse group of artists are presented to a wide variety of community members on a daily basis.
