CLC Intern Jessi Rochel has been addicted to reading since that fateful day in first grade. Reading alongside her dad, she pushed her way through David McPhail's Great Cat. It was the hardest book she had ever read and the best she had ever felt. Now almost sixteen years later, Jessi is still enjoying the thrill of reading as she works toward her Second Bachelor's degree here at Colorado State University. (She just couldn't stay away!) As of August, she was a fully fledged graduate, having majored in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, and also a Business Administration minor.
She chose to return to CSU for International Studies, with a concentration in European Studies, because as a Study Abroad Alum from Swansea, Wales, Jessi's newest greatest passion is traveling. (Spending five months traveling throughout the UK and Western Europe will do that to you.) Among other career goals in life-including but not limited to-authoring adolescent fiction, owning her own bookstore, editing, and becoming a professional book critic, she is contemplating the absolute bliss that would follow writing a traveling cookbook, and a series of free verse stories on historical events.
During her time with the CLC, Jessi will be assisting with the Intergenerational Literacy and Writing Project. During her high school years, she participated in a similar program that paired students with outside community members to read and discuss a book. And she loved it.
