CLC Intern Melanie Witt is currently a graduate student in the TESL/TEFL program (Teaching English as Second/Foreign Language) in the English department at Colorado State University. She currently teaches English at the Intensive English Program at CSU and is active member of the student-based advocacy group on campus. Melanie is interested in promoting awareness and interest in multilingualism/multiliteracies and the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.

At an early age, she found solace in literature and art, making story telling an integral part of her life. Melanie continues to embrace new opportunities for personal and professional enrichment, whether through reading and writing, teaching, learning, photography or a love for the outdoors.

During her time with the CLC, Melanie will be assisting Dr. Fabiola Ehlers-Zavala in the CORE Project. She is interested in learning more about the relationship between reading and writing and how it affects literacy within underserved populations. Concurrently, Melanie is researching the relationship between reading in a first language and reading in a second language.

Upon graduating from CSU, she plans to teach English abroad for a few years, work with English Language Learners in Hawaii, and eventually pursue a Ph.D. in applied linguistics.
