COMMUNITY LITERACY PARTNERS

TURNING POINT CENTER FOR YOUTH AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT

The Turning Point Center for Youth and Family Development is a temporary rehabilitation residence for Larimer County’s youth. They provide many services for adolescents who are “having problems at home, in school, and often with the law.” They strive for “a world of empowered, healthy, and responsible families and adolescents appreciating and affirming themselves and others.” The CLC has hosted SpeakOut! Writing Workshops at Turning Point since 2005.

LARIMER COUNTY JAIL

Larimer County Detention Center houses all adults arrested for any offense in the Fort Collins/Loveland area. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office strives to “improve the quality of life within our communities. We will promote a safe environment, self-sufficiency, and a sense of security by providing excellent educational and public safety services with consistent and equitable treatment.” The CLC has hosted SpeakOut! Writing Workshops at LCDC since 2005.

LARIMER COUNTY COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS

Larimer County Community Corrections provides reintegration of nonviolent felony offenders in Larimer County with “individual and group counseling, life skills training, financial planning and management, and crisis intervention.” Community Corrections participated in several SpeakOut! Workshops during 2005, and resumed workshops in 2014.

FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, THE CENTER FOR ADULT LEARNING, FORT COLLINS

FRCC’s Center for Adult Learning offers English as a Second Language and GED classes for community members in Fort Collins. The FRCC Center for Adult Learning has helped with recruiting and promotion of CLC intergenerational literacy efforts.

POUDRE RIVER PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT

The Poudre River Public Library District serves Fort Collins from three branches, the main library in Old Town, the Council Tree branch in the southeast part of town and the Harmony branch on the Front Range Community College campus. The library offers a “skilled and knowledgeable staff, a diverse collection of written, recorded, and graphic materials,” sponsors “exhibits, presentations, and performances of current and historical works that span the spectrum of ideas and art” and acts as a “key community sponsor in encouraging lifelong learning.”

ADULT LEARNERS VETERANS SERVICES

CSU’s Resources for Adult Learners, in conjunction with Off-Campus Student Services, is a “leader in integrating the evolving, diverse needs of off-campus students, non-traditional students, the university, and surrounding community.” ALVS has helped with recruiting and promotion of CLC intergenerational literacy efforts.

PARTNERS MENTORING YOUTH

Partners Mentoring Youth is a mentoring organization for children ages 8-17 in Larimer County. Their mission is “to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social and academic lives.” Partners Mentoring Youth has helped with recruiting and promotion of CLC intergenerational literacy efforts.
